By Michael Butler

The Tallassee boys soccer team secured the area title with a 7-1 win over rival Elmore County on Thursday night at J.E. "Hot" O'Brien Stadium. THS seniors were honored as well on Senior Night.

"Winning the area was a goal of ours going into the season," said Tallassee head coach Matthew Tarpley. "We knew it would be difficult, but the boys put in the work and were determined to win the area championship."

Junior all-state player Irvin Delfin put up another hat trick with three goals raising his season total to 54 goals. According to MaxPreps, Delfin leads the nation in the category.

"Irvin is a special player and having a very special year," said Tarpley. "The sky is the limit for Irvin. I feel he'll reach 60 goals, which is a remarkable feat for any player. It's a pleasure and honor to coach him and watch him play."

Tallassee (16-4-4) will host a first-round playoff game on Monday, April 29 vs. Demopolis at 6 p.m.

"We're excited to host a playoff game," said Tarpley. "Our story is not done and the journey continues. I'm extremely proud of the boys, but we're not done yet."
