Tigers secure playoff spot, fight for area title this week

By Michael Butler

The first matter of business has been handled by the Tallassee baseball team. The Tigers swept Brewbaker Tech last week to clinch a post-season berth for the second straight season. This week, Tallassee will play for the area title and an opportunity to host the first round.

THS (12-6) faces Elmore County (18-6) in a best-of-three series in Tallassee and Eclectic on Tuesday and Thursday. Like Tallassee, the Panthers also swept Brew Tech to punch their playoff ticket.

The Tigers beat the Rams 20-3 in Montgomery on Tuesday and 12-3 at Southside on Thursday. Brady Mason and Thomas Lemmond picked up wins on the mound.

Brue Milner led the Tigers at the plate in the opener with two homeruns and eight RBIs. Milner was 3-for-5. Chase Webster went 2-for-4. On Thursday, five Tigers had two hits each; Milner, Chase Chumley, Bryson Rigsby, Cash Gough and Bry Hathcock.

Tallassee took two from Booker T. Washington on Friday (18-1, 17-2). Both games went just three innings. Chumley and Milner had two hits apiece in game one. Walker Wells got the win. In game two, Milner, Wells, Brody Wisener, Carter Sayers and Konner Taunton had two hits each. Mason Battles picked up the victory.

Tallassee enters this week's action riding a six-game win streak, the longest streak since winning ten in a row in 2017. Elmore County took two of three in last year's series. The Panthers have won eight of the last nine against the Tigers. Prior to that, Tallassee was 10-1 versus Elmore County from 2014-18.

On Tuesday, the junior varsity Tigers play their final home game of the season against Elmore County at 5 p.m. The varsity game will follow with the broadcast on WTLS/Score 94.7/Hit 106.9 and Facebook. Thursday's matchup begins at 5 p.m. in Eclectic.
