Wetumpka ran its winning streak against Tallassee to 11 with a commanding 42-16 victory at J.E. “Hot” O’Brien Stadium on Friday. It was the 71st meeting in the series, the most among all Tallassee opponents.

The Tigers lead the rivalry 35-34-2 but have not won since 1992. The last meeting was in 2021 with Wetumpka winning on a “Hail Mary” touchdown 18-14.

Friday’s game would not be that close.

The Indians (2-0) piled up 292 rushing yards. Tallassee quarterback Trent Morris threw for 152 yards completing 17 of 30 attempts with a touchdown.

Wetumpka built a 20-0 lead before Abram Whittington woke up the home crowd with a 91-yard kickoff return to put the Tigers on the board. It was 28-10 at halftime after a 25-yard Channing Johnson field goal.

“I told them at halftime I couldn’t be more proud,” said THS head coach Eric Folmar. “They had every opportunity in the first half to fold when we got down and they didn’t. They kept fighting.”

Morris connected with Hudson Timmerman on an 11-yard pass in the fourth quarter for Tallassee’s final touchdown.

“Before we came out of the locker room I told them, ‘Let’s go bloody some noses and fight for four quarters.’ I’m proud of the way they competed.”

Tallassee (0-2) opens region play on Friday at home versus Holtville.

“The first two weeks were going to be tough, but it was good to be tested by two really good football teams.,” Folmar added. “We’ve been through a couple of battles now together. We’ve shown pretty drastic improvement. I think the growth the past two games (has been) tremendous. I expect us to come out and put out a good product.”
