THS Softball’s Post-Season Bid Comes Up Short

By Michael Butler

The Tallassee softball team ended its season last week with a couple of tough losses in the area tournament at 17 Springs in Millbrook. The team will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2017. That was head coach Pat Love’s first season.

“We’re proud of the way our team competed this season and the growth we saw from start to finish,” Love said. “It didn’t end how we wanted.”

Love also touched on the injury bug which hit the team this season. The girls finished the year with a 15-17 record.

Tallassee opened the tourney last week with a comeback win over Catholic, 12-11. The Tigers fell behind 5-0 in the second but went ahead after a six-run fourth.

Marlee Osborne, Reese Gough and Maddie Tennyson had two hits each. Osborne saw her first significant action at pitcher since an early season injury. The junior threw six innings in picking up the win, the most work in the circle since going seven innings against Sylacauga on March 3. She gave up five earned runs with a strikeout and two bases on balls.

Tallassee faced the top-seed Prattville Christian next and lost 4-2. The Panthers scored all four of their runs in the first. Kam Tate took the loss despite not allowing an earned run over six innings She struck out five and walked one. Tate had two hits, as did Lila Kate Fulgham.

In the elimination game, Catholic beat the Tigers 10-6 to advance to the finals. Tate took the loss, going three innings. All three runs scored against the starter were unearned. She had no strikeouts and walked one. Osborne pitched four innings giving up five earned runs. She had no strikeouts and a walk.

Osborne, Cheyann Easterling and Olivia Hammonds had two hits each. Tallassee rallied in the seventh. Down 10-2, they scored four runs and were a baserunner away from getting the tying run to the plate, but the comeback was not meant to be this time around.

Love will have his entire roster returning next season with no seniors on the 2026 squad.

“We’ll be working during the offseason to come back stronger and better,” he said. “We’re hopeful to continue building on what we’ve started. We’re excited about what’s ahead.”
