Chamber banquet this week

By Michael Butler

The Greater Tallassee Area Chamber of Commerce will host its annual banquet on Thursday, Feb. 1 at the Wetumpka Civic Center.

"One thing that we're doing starting at 6:00 is a social hour and silent auction," executive director Jerry Cunningham said.

Monies raised from the auction will go towards the Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Program for ambassadors.

"It started last year," Cunningham added. "The ambassadors are students. It gets them more familiar with the Chamber and teach them about civic responsiblities and leadership."

Dinner will be catered by 1220 Café . Tallassee mayor Johnny Hammock will give a state of the city address. A program will be given by local authors, husband and wife George and Rachel Barker.

"The banquet begins at 7:00," Cunningham noted. "We expect about 200 people in attendance."

Among the awards to be presented will be the Frances Wagnon Volunteer of the Year Award and the Business of the Year Award.
