Team up to clean up

The annual "Team Up to Clean Up" is this week in Tallassee. In conjunction with Earth Day, the effort promotes awareness to making the community a cleaner place.

The week-long event is from April 17-22 in Tallassee put on by the Tallassee Chamber of Commerce, Advanced Disposal and Stone's Throw Landfill.

Locals are encouraged to put togehter their own litter teams to pick up around town.

"Get your teams together, whether it be in your neighborhood or by your business," Chamber director Michone Roye said. "We're not picky. Pick your spot. We want all of Tallassee clean and beautiful."

Contact the Chamber office to check on availabilty of garbage bags and gloves at 334-283-5151.

"We've had several teams sign up," Roye said. "We've got quite a few people participating."

Drop off points will include City Hall on Saturday, April 22 from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Appliances may be deposited at the City Shop behind the Recreation Center from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. Parker Tire and Service Center is taking oil, tires and batteries free of charge from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. all week. On Thursday and Friday (April 20 and 21), residents may drop off their electronic items behing the Chamber of Commerce on Sistrunk Steet from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

"It's a good opportunity to get rid of some things that I'm sure you've had sitting behind the house in the shed or in the storage building that are broken."
