Chamber awards to be virtual event

By Michael Butler

The Tallassee Chamber of Commerce will have its annual awards banquet on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. For the first time ever, the program will be a virtual event.

Awards to be given include; the Franc3s Wagnon Volunteer of the Year, the Business of the Year, the President's Award and Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award.

Last year, Lamar Godwin received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement honor.

"Lamar has been in the Chamber for many years," Chamber of Commerce director Jerry Cunningham said. "He was president of the Chamber. He's been a big part of it and knew what it was about. He's still very involved."

Other 2020 recipients were Brad Davis (Frances Wagnon Award), Studio B Dance Center's Brooke Rigsby (Business of the Year) and LD Bell (President's Award).

"There are a lot of people that give," Cunningham said. "I learned a long time ago that the people you want to help are the people that are the busiest. They're busiest for a reason. They're willing to give of their time."

The silent auction will still occur as in years past. Proceeds go toward student scholarships.

"We'll recognize the ambassadors and our members of the Chamber," Cunningham added. "The presentation will be an hour or less."

Live video streaming will be available through the Chamber's Facebook page.
