15 trackletes headed to state
15 Tallassee High School track members have qualified for upcoming state meet in Gulf Shores this week. The girls had eight qualifiers and the boys added seven.
The Tigers put up a solid showing in the Class 4A Sectionals at Beauregard last weekend. To meet qualiying standards, participants must meet a minimum time and finish in fifth place or higher. Athletes can participate in a maximum of four events.
Two THS girls placed first at sectionals; Chloe Baynes and Iyana Parker. Baynes won the high jump with a jump of 4’10. She was also second in the 100 meter hurdles running a 17.07. Parker took the 100 meter hurdles with a 16.39.
The girls team also had two more medal winners. Lexi Love finished third in the javelin throwing 96’8. Armani Wilkerson finished second in the 300 meter hurdles running a 50.9.
The boys also had two sectional champs; Trent Cochran-Gill and Kalvin Levett. Cochran-Gill won the javelin with a top throw of 158’6. Levett was the triple jump winner with a leap of 45’6. Levett also finshed second in the 110 meter hurdles and third in the long jump. Other medal winners for the boys were Markevious Matthews, Sam Freeman, Mason Bell and Greg Williams of the 4x100 meter relay team placing second.

Overall, the girls team finished as sectional runners-up. The first time they have placed at sectionals in ten years.
Tallassee head coach Danny Worley was very happy for the girls team. "They have worked hard all year and deserve the trophy," he said.
Worley was also complimentary of the boys 4x100 meter group. They came in ranked eighth in the sectional and finished with the silver medal and will have the fourth fastest time at state.
