Road work extends to East Tallassee

By Michael Butler

Commuters have probably already noticed. Road work is ongoing East Tallassee and has caused some delays.

The Alabama Department of Transportation has begun work on Highway 14 just across the Benjamin Fitzpatrick Bridge.

Like the project that is near completion on Highway 229 in Tallassee from Five Points to the I-85 interchange, the Highway 14 project will be a full resurfacing job but should not take as long.

Linda Crocket, Public Information Officer with ALDOT's East Central Region, noted that the estimated completion date is slated for late October to early November.

The project will extend from the Elmore County line to Cannon Road in Tallassee and will include road work on the bridge.

On the Benjamin Fitzpatrick Bridge, jobs to be completed include safety widening, retrofitting of guardrails and guardrail and end anchor replacement. Resurfacing entails mill work, surface treatment, striping and raised pavement markers.

Tallassee workers will also be filling potholes on city streets over the next week.
