Chamber to relocate

By Michael Butler

The Tallassee Chamber of Commerce will soon be moving its offices to a new location. Currently at 10 South Ann Avenue, the move will be to 303 Barnett Boulevard, remaining in the downtown district. In fact, the buildings are adjacent to one another, but the move will give the Chamber more operable space.

"We're partnering with the Community Development Corporation by moving collectively to a new office," Chamber director Jerry Cunningham said. "The anticipated move is set for May 1.  The move will allow for the Chamber of Commerce and the CDC to have a permanent place for their respective board meetings.  The move makes both organizations more visible and it also fills an empty store along Barnett. We're not going to be joint organizations. We're just using the same building."

The building is better known as the old Company Store, built by Mount Vernon Mills in 1893.

"It's an iconic building," Cunningham added. "It's huge. It's certainly going to be quite a difference. The key thing is being able to have our meetings there instead of having to go to the hospital or tech center. Everything is right there. It's going to be good for the whole community. We've been talking about it for a while. Hopefully, we'll start getting the windows painted in the near future."
