Stabbing, suicide at Hudson Place

A woman was stabbed on Monday morning at the 600 block of the Hudson Place neighborhood in Tallassee. The assailant then killed himself by gunshot. Tallassee police received a call at 9:18 a.m.

"We had what appeared to be a domestic incident," Tallassee police chief Matthew Higgins stated. "The female had multiple stab wounds and was transported to the hospital for further treatment. Her injuries are considered serious at this time."

The deceased has been identified as Michael Ray Thornton, a white male, age 60.

"The female advised officers that she had been involved in an altercation with her boyfriend during which time he stabbed her. Officers made entry into the residence and located Thornton dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot."

The case is still under investigation by the TPD Detective Division.
