Man shot after confrontation

A Tallassee man is in stable condition after being shot on Monday morning in the Jordanville area.

The incident occured near 3rd Avenue and Cherry Street. Tallassee police received the call at 8:13 a.m. LaJonathan Kennebrew has been identified as the suspect. The 39-year-old black male turned himself in and is now in custody.

A verbal altercation led to the shooting. The victim was treated at Community Hospital and transported by helicopter to Baptist Hospital in Montgomery. He is recovering after surgery.

"This was an isolated incident," said Tallassee Police Chief Todd Buce. "It is in no way a common circumstance in the city of Tallassee. There is no immediate danger to the community at this time."

Kennebrew has been charged with assault in the first degree.
