Shipman optimistic for improved test scores
By Michael Butler
State student testing is already complete for the 2018-19 school year. The scores have yet to be revealed, but Tallassee City Schools superintendent Wade Shipman is expecting better numbers.
"One of the things our board has asked us to do is if we have all the test data, can't we make some projections of where we're going to be with accountability in our state's report card.
"There is still some uncertainty there, but we're looking at improvement in each one of our schools as well as the system scores. From a system level, it looks like we've made improvement each of the last two years. It looks like we're in a cycle where we're seeing improvement every year. That's what we want."
The average score between Tallassee's three schools last year was 76.3.
"We want to move in that B range and be B schools trying to be A schools and ultimately be A schools. Our goal is always to be better today than we were yesterday and be better tomorrow than we are today."
Shipman said that a point of interest now is intervention.
"We're trying to move those kids that maybe aren't where they should be with their scores to the next level. That's been a point of emphasis for our schools across the system."
According to Shipman, scores may be released as soon as November of this year.
