Chief gives annual numbers report

By Michael Butler

Tallassee police chief Matthew Higgins handed out the 2018 statistics for his department at the Jan. 8 city council meeting at City Hall. Tallassee is a town of fewer than 5,000 citizens but has its fair share of illicit activity to handle.

The TDPS were dispatched for 11,908 service calls during the last calendar year and wrote 1,863 incident reports. 254 reports were for domestic incidents. There were 199 reported traffic accidents and 257 fire calls.

809 arrests were made, 155 being felony arrests and 654 misdemeanors. Arrests from narcotics totaled 128. The police force impounded 65 guns and closed 176 cases.

"That's pretty good numbers for the size of department we are," Higgins stated. "We have a very professional operation here, and I appreciate every officer that we have. The citizens and council recognize that."
