Smarty Pants owner "wishes it were a bad dream"

By Michael Butler

Years of hard work are now scattered in charred ruins of MaeganMarie Speake's Smarty Pants Consignment Shop.

"I have never had to deal with any type of devastation before and this is almost more than I can bear," Speake said. "I have spent the last two years pouring my heart into this store. I went from being a divorced, broken down, single mother of five glorious children, to a very successful business owner. For the first time in my life I was proud of myself and now it’s all gone."

"I am so tired and yet I close my eyes and cannot sleep," she said. "I stayed on the scene until the last brick was knocked down and yet this morning I sit here wishing it was all a bad dream!"

Speake left the store around 8:00 on Sunday evening. "I accidently left my purse in the store thinking it would be safe 'til morning. Well now I have lost not only my original records, but also my back up. I have no way to verify any of my accounts, nor do I have any of my consignor information."

Her cellular phone was also lost in the fire." Any consignors needing to contact me can call 578-0786 and leave a message with their name and phone number. I can check the messages and return their calls as soon as possible. Thanks to everyone for all their love and support."

Speake wanted to let her consignors know that she is very sorry for all those who lost items. "Although I am not able to financially replace anyone’s belongings at this time, I will be making every effort to make this situation right in the future.

"I have no family and very few friends, mostly just people I have met through the store. I know God has something even better in store for me, but sitting back looking at the pile of bricks that now lay where my store once stood I just can't see it."
