Voters to decide on Sunday sales

By Michael Butler

Tallassee's upcoming municipal election has been a hot topic. Like the Summer Olympics, it comes but once every four years.

An item for voters to ponder that might have been lost in the shuffle is the question of whether or not to allow Sunday alcohol sales.

The Sunday Sales debate has been debated for decades. Now it will be on the Aug. 23 ballot for the citizens to decide.

The referendum will read:

Sales of Alcohol
City of Tallassee

“Do you favor the legal sale of alcoholic beverages within this municipality for off-premises consumption
on Sunday between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and midnight?

Yes or No

Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Polling sites are at the National Guard Armory, God's Congregational Holiness Church and the Community Library.

1300 WTLS/106.5 FM and Tallassee Times TV will have election coverage and results beginning at 7:00 p.m.
