Tigers to open area play this week

By Michael Butler

The first half of the Tallassee softball schedule is complete. The Tigers are 10-5 prior to area competition.

There are two area matchups slated for this week with a week off for Spring Break to follow.

Both games are in Tallassee with Pike Road on the schedule for Wednesday, March 16 and Beauregard the next day.

"This is a big week for us," head coach Pat Love said. "Two big area contests and both good teams. We are going to have to play well to beat them."

Tuesday rain is expected. A 60 percent chance of showers are in the forecast for Wednesday. Thursday should clear up, but if makeups are necessary they may be pushed to Saturday. There is a 100 percent chance of precipitation on Friday.

"The weather is going to be challening, but we do have the tarp on the infield to help us," Love added. "Hopefully we can get them in."

Tallassee split games with 7A teams Central Phenix City and Prattville last week. The Tigers won at Central 16-6 in six innings on Thursday and lost 7-5 at Prattville on Friday.

Avary Lumpkin had the hot stick. The senior was 4-for-5 against the Red Devils with three RBIs. She hit a homerun vs. the Lions.

The Tigers had 14 hits in the victory over Central. Chloe Davidson, Belle Haynes, Marleee Stewart, Brooke Royster, Alexis Walls and Abby Davis all had two hits each.

Tallassee was held to five total hits in the loss to Prattville. Chloe Baynes went 2-for-3.
