Camden Mask posted the top time in the 100-yard breaststroke event

Swim team competes in first meet of season

The Tallassee High School swim team kicked off the 2020 season on Saturday in Brewton at the T.R. Miller Homecoming Swim Meet. 

Members of the THS team are:  Macey Stewart, Ivey Davis, Hope Moyers, Auburn Weldon, Madeline Weldon, Lilly Haynes, Alta Bentley, Catherine Braun, Abigail Gunter, Adam Aldridge, Ian Bankester, Corbin Grover, Camden Mask, Canyon Moyers, Mason Nelson, Ethan Soehren, and Chase Webster.

Tallassee had some very strong performances with several swimmers qualifying for the AHSAA state meet. 

Competing in the girls' 200 medley relay were Auburn Weldon, Hope Moyers, Ivey Davis and Macey Stewart. They finished second with a time of 2:19.96. 

The boys' 200 medley team of Corbin Grover, Camden Mask, Chase Webster, Canyon Moyers finished second with a time of 2:02.19. The time qualified the boys for state.

The girls' 200-yard free relay team of Alta Bentley, Auburn Weldon, Madeline Weldon and Lilly Haynes finished fourth with a time of 2:18.04. 

The boys’ 200-yard free relay team of Adam Aldridge, Camden Mask, Chase Webster and Canyon Moyers placed third with a time of 1:56.84. 

The last relay of the day was the girls' 400-yard free relay. Ivey Davis, Hope Moyers, Lilly Haynes and Macey Stewart were second with a time of 4:49.44. 

In the individual events Tallassee also had several solid performers. 

In the girls' 200 IM, Hope Moyer finished second.  In the girls' 50-yard free Macey Stewart was the champion registering an AHSAA state qualifying time. Ivey Davis finished fourth. Stewart won the 100-yard free Macey Stewart with a time of 56.37, once again posting a state qualifying time.

In the girls' 500-yard free event, Ivey Davis placed second and Corbin Grover was fourth. In the girls' 100-yard backstroke, Auburn Weldon finished third and Alta Bentley fourth. In the girls' 100-yard breaststroke, Lilly Haynes was fourth. 

In the boys' 100-yard fly, Chase Webster finished fourth. In the boys' 100-yard backstroke, Corbin Grover finished fourth with a time of 1:14.65. In the boys' 100-yard breaststroke, Camden Mask was the champion with a time of 1:14.09, recording an AHSAA state qualifying time.

"Coach (Jamie) Aldridge and I are very proud of these young men and women," Tallassee coach John Mask said. "These swimmers have been training for over two months and really performed well."

The next meet will be on Oct. 24 in Prattville.
