Girls win Purple and Gold tourney

The Tallassee softball Tigers hosted the five-team Purple and Gold Tournament last weekend at Southside Park. The purple and gold were dominant in winning the championship and improving to 10-1 on the season.
The tone was set in Tallassee's first game on Friday with Avary Lumpkin's grand slam vs. Pike Road. Tallassee went on to win 5-2. The Tigers opened Saturday's play at 8 a.m. with a 7-0 shutout of Opelika. THS then beat Reeltown 10-1 to set up the championship game with Saint James.
The Tigers and Trojans were scheduled to play each other before the title game but opted to make the 5:00 scheduled game the championship with both teams having undefeated records.
Tallassee beat Saint James 10-0 to put an exclamaition point on an impressive weekend. The team had 34 total hits, 12 of them for extra bases, and committed just four errors during the entire tourney.

Chloe Baynes had 6 hits with 5 stolen bases and scored 6 runs. Belle Haynes had 6 hits, 7 runs and 4 RBIs. Avary Lumpkin had 4 hits, 2 that were homers, and 7 RBIs. Ella Thrash had 4 hits. Lexi Love added 4 hits and 6 RBIs. Jordan Walters, Madelyn Martin and Sinclair Cole had 3 hits each over the two days.
Walters had two wins, allowing no earned runs and giving up just two hits. She struck out 6 and walked just 1. Cole also recorded two victories. She scattered 12 hits and gave up 3 runs while striking out 6 and walking none.
