Girls will host area tourney

By Michael Butler

The Tallassee softball Tigers will host the area tournament for the third straight year. Tallassee tied with Elmore County for first place, but the tiebreaking coin toss went the Tigers' way.

"It's big for us to get to host," THS head coach Pat Love said. "It's always great to play on your own field in front of the home crowd."

Both Tallassee and Elmore County have been ranked in the Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 5A poll all season. Last week, the Panthers were No. 6. The Tigers were No. 8.

Tallassee is 21-16 overall with a week of regular season play remaining. Elmore County is 26-16-2. Beauregard and Valley make up the other two Area 5 opponents. The Hornets are 18-21-1. The Rams are 3-18.

"Our area tournament going to be hard," Love added. "I think we have one of the toughest areas around. We are going to have to have to play our best ball to make it out."

The tournament will be double elimination and begins on May 3 at Southside Park. The top two teams will advance to the playoffs.
