Rec basketball numbers good

By Michael Butler

The response has been good, so it appears that youth basketball will return to the courts in January.

"We're going to have a league," Tallassee Parks and Recreation Director Rick Golden said. "We're pushing 60 kids now."

The Tallassee Recreation Department sent out signup forms to local schools a few weeks ago. Those interested were asked to register at the Rec Center to gauge interest.

"We're going to break everything down and see what the numbers are. Then we'll give you a call. You can come and pay your registration fee. Then we'll get the league going."

Friday, Dec. 15 is the last day to sign up. The league will be for first through sixth graders. As Golden noted, fees will be collected later.

"The registration fee shouldn't be more than $30," he added. "We've had a great response."

Golden also pointed out that Tiny Tots registration numbers are up.

"It's for kids ages four through six. We've at least doubled, maybe tripled our numbers."

The cost is $25. Sessions will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. The deadline for Tiny Tots entries is also Friday.
