Reeltown beats Holtville

By Joseph Moore

In what was a battle of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with first-half turnovers and mistakes, the Reeltown Rebels ended on a high note Friday night at Holtville with a 40-26 win.

Injured running back Juicy Hughley did not start for Reeltown, but the Rebels had a triple threat of Scooter Brooks, Arthur Woods and Omar Ponds to fill the void.

Reeltown started off the contest with an 83-yard drive that resulted in a Rebels’ touchdown by Ponds.

Offensive threat Marcus Haynes set Boykin-Chapman Field on fire with 223 receiving yards.

The Rebels finished with 419 yards of offense. Holtville ended with only 187 yards.

"We were physical and adjusted at halftime," head coach Matt Johnson said. "These guys love each other. Family is important. They stepped up for a hurt brother, Juicy Hughley."

Reeltown (6-4) will travel on Friday night to the "Town of Opportunity" as they face Region 2 runner-up Opp (8-2).
