Reeltown wins pivotal region game

By Joseph Moore

The Battle of Tallapoosa County might not have been the 7-6, 2020 classic, but the Reeltown Rebels put on a dominating, physical performance that clinched the Rebels spot in the 3A state playoffs as they defeated the Dadeville Tigers at Tiger Stadium 36-14.

In what some fans thought in the first quarter was going to be a tight, physical game turned into a nightmare for the Dadeville Tigers as Juicy Hughley turned on the jets in the second quarter to unleash a rushing attack that the Tigers would never forget.

Reeltown ended the half 30-0. The second half for the Rebels was just as dominating. Hughley started the half with an 82-yard kickoff return, and Reeltown never looked back.

The Rebels ended the contest with 332 total yards of offense with 200 return yards. Hughley scored five touchdowns. Dadeville ended with 118 total yards.

"The guys are getting better and better by playing the best football all year," Reeltown Head Coach Matt Johnson said. "(We) ran the ball hard and special teams are improving each game. Our staff has put in so much time and planning each week for both sides of the ball, including special teams."

The Reeltown Rebels are now 4-4 overall and 4-2 in region play. Reeltown will host Pike County on Senior Night at 7 p.m. this Friday night at Nix-Webster-O’Neal Stadium in another crucial region showdown.
