Tigers' win streak ends at 15 games

By Michael Butler

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. That is the case with what has become the longest known winning streak in Tallassee High School basketball history.

15 in-a-row. That's how many games the Tigers had won before finally going down in defeat. Prattville Christian, the No. 3 team in Class 3A, beat the No. 7 team in 5A 38-36 to capture the Capital City Conference Tournament championship at Trinity on Saturday, Dec. 30.

"We were up seven late in the third quarter," head coach Keiven Mixson said. The Tigers were then whistled for five straight fouls. "They hit nine-of-ten free throws. We had a chance to win at the buzzer."

Tallassee's run began Nov. 15 and lasted 45 days. Now, the Tigers (15-2) will attempt to start a new streak.

THS begins area play on Tuesday, Jan. 8 on the road at Valley. Another area matchup against Brewbaker Tech follows on Thursday, Jan. 10 at Stumberg Gymnasium in Tallassee.

During the holiday break, Tallassee won the Elmore County Tournament with wins over Stanhope Elmore, Elmore County and Wetumpka. In three tournaments this season, the Tigers have won two and were the runner-up in the other.
