Hoops teams open area play tonight

By Michael Butler

The Tallassee Tigers have tipped off their season, but tonight will be their first time out with the full assortment of players.

"We've got nine or ten that are ready to play," head boys coach Keiven Mixson said. "The football players are back, but the full team has not practiced a full practice."

The Tigers are 2-4 in the early season and open area play vs. Holtville tonight at Stumberg Gym. The junior varsity game starts at 4:30 followed by the varsity girls and varsity boys games.

"We wanted to schedule a few tough teams to see where we stand. I think it's good exposure. After we played, there was some buzz about a few of our players."

Mixson has four seniors and a lot of "young talent."

"We have a good mix," Mixson added. "It's a process. It's holding each other accountable, changing the culture. What does it take to win? It takes hard work and discipline. I'm trying to teach our kids that we have to play hard. We have no chance if we don't play hard. I'm building a program here at Tallassee."
