Playoffs in Tallassee this weekend

By Michael Butler

The Tallassee Tigers will begin post-season play on Friday at Southside Field. THS (20-13) will host Escambia County (4-16).

Games are scheduled for 5:00 and 7:30 on Friday evening. A Saturday game is slated for 1:00 p.m., if necessary. The series will be the best of three games.

Tallassee has not advanced past the first round since 2011. Tallassee's deepest run since its last state title (1998) was the semifinals in 2006.

The team appears to be getting hot at the right time. The Tigers have won five straight and 9 of their last 11 games.

Tallassee will complete its regular season with a single game vs. Reeltown on Tuesday at 5:00 for Senior Night. The Tigers beat the Rebels 6-0 last Wednesday in Reeltown. Dee Williams picked up the shutout with seven complete on the mound. He struck out 11 and walked two. The Rebels mustered just three hits.

Williams went 2-for-3 with a double. Reid Whitaker was 2-for-3. Will Peters and Blake Dean were 2-for-4.

Tallassee also had road wins over Catholic, 7-5 and Beauregard, 5-3, last week.

On Tuesday at Catholic, Casey Baynes picked up the win in relief, shutting down the Knights with a no-hitter over three innings. Williams was 4-for-4. Chris Rowland added a single.

In Thursday's win over Beauregard, Peters got the win on the mound and added a hit at the plate. Jake Burton, Caleb Stewart, Williams, Baynes and Dean also had hits.

This week's games and all playoff action will be broadcast on 1300 WTLS/106.5 FM, Tallassee Times TV, Spectrum Cable Channel 97 and the TuneIn Radio App. Live video is not permitted.

Admission to playoff games wil be $8 on Friday and $6 on Saturday.
