Accident claims life on 229

A Thursday afternoon wreck at the intersection of Highway 229 and Taylor Road just outside of Tallassee resulted in a fatality and another severe injury.

The accident claimed the life of Lee Riley, 63, of Notasulga.

Tallassee police worked the scene where a vehicle struck a tractor.

"It looks like the driver was trying to pass several cars as the tractor turned on Taylor Road," Tallassee police chief Matthew Higgins stated. "Speed was possibly involved. The driver as pronounced dead on the scene. The passenger was transported by life flight. The driver of the tractor didn't receive any injuries."
