Hammock leads in straw poll

By Michael Butler

According to a recent straw poll posted on the Yellowhammer political website, Tallassee mayor leads in the race for Alabama Public Service Commission.

A vote was taken at the recent Young Republican Federation of Alabama (YRFA) winter gala. Hammock received 56 percent of the vote of those polled to incumbent Jeremy Oden's 44 percent.

"It is a honor to have won the Young Republicans Federation straw poll for Public Service Commission," Hammock said. "I want all Republicans young and old to know that I will always fight the radical left's failed energy policies coming out of Washington D.C. and look forward to continue meeting fellow Republicans across our great state."

In other Republican races of interest, Gov. Kay Ivey, in her re-election bid, received the higheset number of votes among those polled at the gala with 54 percent. Tim James was second with 17 percent.

Katy Britt was the leader in the U.S. Senate race to take the soon-to-be vacated seat held by Richard Shelby. Britt received 44 percent of votes in the straw poll. Mo Brooks was second with 28 percent.

The Alabama Primary will be on May 24, 2022.
