Rogers named top instructor


Tallassee Fire Department Asst. Chief David Rogers has been selected Alabama Fire College Fire Instructor of the Year for 2018. Rogers was recognized on Feb. 7 2019 at the Alabama Association of Fire Chiefs Mid-Winter Conference in Tuscaloosa.

This award is chosen yearly by the Alabama Fire College Personnel and Standards Commission based on impact to the fire service, AFC and local community.  

Rogers began his fire service career in May of 1994 in Tallassee. He has risen through the ranks. His day-to-day responsibilities include training and finance. He also serves as Tallassee Fire Department PIO. He is a graduate of the Alabama Fire College (AFC) 2017-2018 Public Safety Leadership Academy and holds a Master designation through the InVEST program.

Rogers became an AFC Instructor in 2003 and has led the Tallassee Training Program since 2005. Under his leadership and guidance, the Tallassee Fire Department was selected as an Extension Training Center through the AFC. The department has expanded its capabilities through internal training and has become an exemplary training program in Central Alabama. 

In 2018, Tallassee Fire Department hosted 24 AFC courses and accounted for 148 area firefighters and over 7,500 man hours of certification courses. Also, Tallassee Fire Department’s members received 2,994 man hours of departmental training in 2018. Rogers cooordinated these classes.

As a recipient of this honor, Rogers will represent the AFC at the Fire Department Instructors Conference International (FDIC) as a guest of the Alabama Fire College in Indianapolis, Ind. in April. FDIC International offers more than 34,000 fire and rescue professionals from over 65 countries around the world, quality world-class instructors, classrooms, workshops, hands on training evolutions and the most innovative products and services available to the industry displayed by over 800 exhibiting companies.
