Adams Drugs Opens in Tallassee

By Michael Butler

A new pharmacy is now open in Tallassee but it’s not new to the River Region. Adams Drugs opened on Monday at 24 Herren Hill Road, next to Community Hospital. Adams has been in business since 1962.

“Tallassee’s our 12th store,” said marketing director Jim Smith, who has been with the Adams for 17 years. “We started on Adams Avenue across from Saint Margaret’s Hospital (in Montgomery). It kind of blossomed from there.”

In addition to locations in Montgomery and now Tallassee, Adams has stores in Millbrook, Wetumpka, Prattville, and Pine Level/Marbury.

The Tallassee location is where the former Herren Hill Pharmacy was located.

“They’ve been closed for a couple of years,” Smith said. “Mike Vinson, our owner, saw an opportunity, being right in front of the school and having the hospital and doctors’ offices right there.”

Merranda Smith will serve as pharmacist. She’s no stranger to Tallassee as a 2005 THS graduate. She also worked at Herren Hill after college.

“I worked there for about six years,” she said. “I’ve been hoping to get back. Serving the customers and patients here is exactly why I wanted to come back (and) working for Adams, family-owned, is a great place to be.”

In addition to being a full-service pharmacy, Adams will offer delivery service, immunizations, wellness screenings, medication therapy management, compounding, and a complete line of over-the-counter items.
