Alabama Has Talent will be back in Tallassee on Aug. 1 at the Mount Vernon Performing Arts Center. This year, a kids show and adult show are scheduled.
Last year’s winner of the inaugural competition was the band Split River. In all, 14 acts performed.
“The talent was unbelievable,” organizer Veronica Harris said of last year’s show. “The turnout was amazing.”
Harris hopes for an encore.
“This year I’m hoping to see more of the same,” she said. “With the kids, a lot do have talent.”
Split River consisted of teenagers, but the field of talent last year had a broad range of performers. With two age divisions this year, Harris expects more stars to sign up.
“Look at Split River, wow! They were absolutely amazing. There’s a lot of talent with these young people. We just have to encourage them. I’m hoping for some new faces.”

Kids ages 3-16 will compete in the morning session beginning at 10. The adult competition is slated for 4 p.m. The kids show winner will receive $500. The adult show prize is $1,000.
“That’s a lot of money,” Harris added. “Free to enter. You have to send a video. There’s only so many slots. Do not wait until the last minute.”
