Elvis Show Saturday Night

By Michael Butler

The 50th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death is approaching. The “King of Rock and Roll” passed away on Aug. 16, 1977, but his legend lives on.

James Michael’s “Taking Care of Elvis” show will highlight the music of Presley on Saturday night, May 30 at the Mount Vernon Performing Arts Center beginning at 7.

“This show is Elvis’ music with a little bit of Jerry Lee Lewis, Tom Jones and Neil Diamond thrown in,” Michael said. “It’s not an impersonation. It’s about the music. I grew up with Elvis’ music, country and rock and roll.”

Michael said 25-30 songs comprise the 90-minute program.

“Our shows have young and old, all sorts of people. That movie that came a couple of years ago kind of helped out. He brought together gospel, blues, country and came up with this thing we call rock and roll. There’s that step in history when music was something else until Elivs. And music was something else after Elvis.”

Tickets are available through simpletix.com.

“I hope people will come out. I think everybody will enjoy it.”
