THS Graduation Friday

By Michael Butler

Tallassee High School graduation will be on Friday, May 22 at 8 p.m. at J.E. “Hot” O’Brien Stadium recognizing the Class of 2026.

The event returns to Tallassee after being held in Wetumpka last year while prescription turf was being installed to the field at O’Brien.

“It was a great ceremony in Wetumpka. I appreciate them hosting us. It went really well,” Tallassee City Schools Superintendent Dr. Brock Nolin said. “We’ll be on our own turf Friday. Hopefully the weather won’t mess us up. I remember one time in the last 23 years that we had to move it because of weather. Cross your fingers.”

There is a 20 percent chance of rain on Friday.

“We’re proud of them and looking for big things from all of our seniors,” Nolin added. “We’ve got several going to various universities. Several are going into the military.”

In addition to the senior awards program last week, THS held a signing day that went beyond recognition of student-athlete scholarships.

“Instead of traditional athletic signings for student going to play college sports, it included military, choir scholarships, band scholarships. It was an inclusive event. I’m glad we’ve gone to something that recognizes everyone for their accomplishments.”

The final day of classes will be Thursday, May 21. The first day of school for the 2026-27 school year will be Aug. 11.
