Tallassee Opens Playoffs at Bibb

By Michael Butler

A tough three-game series in the quarterfinals that ended Tallassee’s baseball season last year is far from a distant memory. Bibb County avenged an 8-1 loss in the series opener at Southside Field winning games two and three, 3-1 and 2-0. The Choctaws reached the 4A finals last year falling to Deshler.

Tallassee (16-11) travels to Centreville this year for a first-round playoff pairing with Bibb County (18-10). The series begins on Friday at 4:30 p.m. with a doubleheader. Game three, if necessary, will be on Saturday at 1 p.m.

“If we could’ve gotten one hit last year, I think we had a shot at the finals,” THS head coach John Goodman said prior to the season.

Bibb County’s championship series went three games last season with Deshler prevailing in the rubber match to claim the blue map. This year’s Choctaws squad returns only two starters, just like Tallassee.

“Last year, we were a senior-laden team,” said Goodman, who graduated 12 from last year’s roster. “This team is very young but has been fun to coach. Watching them grow and understand the program is what it takes to win.”

The team went through some growing pains early starting the season at 0-7. At the mid-season point, things got rolling as the Tigers put together a 13-game winning streak. That run ended with a season-ending sweep at the hands of Trinity in the Class 4A/Area 5 championship series last week.

Bibb’s two returnees for 2025 are the two winning pitchers from last year’s Tallassee series, Ethan McMillan and Brayden Cash.

Tallassee’s Brue Milner leads the state in homeruns with 10 this season. He is batting .481 with 27 RBIs.

“I believe that it’s going to be a fun series to watch,” Goodman concluded.

WTLS – Score 94.7/Fun 101.1 will broadcast all the action with airtime scheduled 30 minutes prior to the first pitch.
