Mrs. Charlotte Lee (Gordon) Griffith, 98, of Atlanta, Ga., passed away January 12, 2020 after a period of declining health.
Mrs. Griffith was born in Atlanta, Georgia on October 31, 1921 to Mary Ruby (Turner) and William Charles Gordon. She grew up in Atlanta, LaGrange and Tallassee, Alabama and worked briefly as a dental assistant for a local dentist in Tallassee. It was there she met her future husband, Austin Kermit Griffith, and the two were married in Tallahassee, Florida in 1941 prior to his deployment to Panama during WWII.
Mrs. Griffith spent her life caring for her husband and two children, making a home in various locations in the US and overseas while her husband pursued a career in the Air Force. After her children were grown, she went to work in the credit department at Sears where she made many life-long friends. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and proud grandmother and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Griffith was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Ruby and William Charles Gordon, her husband, Austin Kermit Griffith and her brother, William Lewis Gordon.
She will be missed and fondly remembered by her daughter, Patricia Placek, her son, K. Randall Griffith, her daughter-in-law, Pamela Griffith, her sister, Marie Hornsby, five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say “Thank you” to Charlotte’s caregivers who showed Charlotte such love and compassion for the past two years.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 12:00PM from First United Methodist Church, Tallassee, Alabama. Visitation will be from 11:00AM until service time with interment following at Rose Hill Cemetery.
