Venable tabbed as banquet speaker

By Michael Butler.

Every year, the Tallassee Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet is one of the first events of the calendar year. 2019 is no exception.

The banquet is scheduled for Feb. 7, a Thursday night. This year, the event is being held at the National Guard Armory in Tallassee after several years in Wetumpka.

"I'm really pleased with that. It's something that needs to be done and the board agrees," Chamber of Commerce executive director Jerry Cunningham said of the banquet's move back to Tallassee. "Even if we don't quite have the facility that we think we need, we need to make it work to keep it in town."

Ben Venable, a Tallassee native and THS graduate, will be the speaker. Venable is director of network engineering for state's Office of Information Technology (OIT). He was recently named president of the Southern Region of the National Association of State Technology Dirctors (NASTD).

"He does a lot of things with fiberoptics," Cunningham said. "It's good to have a local boy who is doing well come back."

Tickets to the banquet will be $35 each. Tables of eight are $250 each.

"We also do our silent auction. All the money goes to our ambassadors' fund which goes directly to students," Cunningham added. "We're looking for people who can donate for the auction. You can contact me at the office."
