A canine's best friend

By Michael Butler

It has been said that a dog is man's best friend. If the dog could talk, it might say the same of man in his relationship to the four-legged companion.

In one particular case, the man is Trey Taylor. The dog is a Rottweiler named Missy.

Taylor has been walking Missy for a friend, who works on the third shift. Afternoons after work as the building inspector for the city of Tallassee, Taylor picks up Missy and takes her for a stroll at the Tallassee Riverwalk.

"I like dogs, but I also need the exercise," said Taylor. "I incorporate it with the exercise. I get a mile of walking a day. I've only missed one day walking this dog this year."

With his job that includes driving around the city, Taylor sees animals needing attention on a daily basis.

"I try to always give back in some fashion whether it's dogs or kids. I enjoy it. It feels good. If I see trash on the trail, I pick it up. I feel like I'm helping my town just a little bit."
