THS students win big at Sewell banquet

The 20th annual Joe Sewell Memorial Award banquet was held on May 7 at the Wetumpka Civic Center. This year’s keynote speaker was Coach Charlie Goodyear. Goodyear is the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Performance at Huntingdon College.

The scholarship program recognizes outstanding high school senior athletes in Elmore County who have consistently represented the highest ideals of Christian leadership.

Four Tallassee seniors were nominated for the annual awards: Trey Bosh, Brady Mason, Jacob Patterson and Macey Stewart. Mason received the honor of being named the overall male winner. Bosh and Stewart were named winners in the academic category.


Mason receives $3,500. Bosh and Stewart will given $1,500 each. In all, $19,000 in scholarship dollars were awarded.

Mason is the son of Brad and Deborah Mason and was a 9th grade Sewell certificate winner. He will be attending Huntingdon College.

Bosh and Stewart were also 9th grade Sewell certificate recipients. Bosh is the son of Richard and Rebecca Bosh. He is enlisted in the National Guard and plans to attend UAB. Stewart is the daughter of Joe and Joely Stewart and will be enrolling at the University of Alabama.
