Teachers launch new book club

Tallassee High School has a new club on campus! “Bean There, Read That” is a new community book club sponsored by faculty members, Miss Carson Hoffman and Mrs. Heather Ernest. Miss Hoffman and Mrs. Ernest, both English teachers at THS, are also avid readers.
Miss Hoffman just recently met her goal of reading 25 books in 2024. She is currently on book 27 of the year and has no plans to stop there!
Mrs. Ernest can be seen reading true crime, psychological thrillers, or books her students are currently reading.
“I just finished Colleen Hoover’s "Verity" last night, and now I am making myself finish "Small Sacrifices" by Ann Rule.” Ernest remarked. “I had to take a break from reading it this summer. Ann Rule gives me nightmares, but I keep on turning the page for more. Even if I don’t like the author, I have to know what my kids are reading so we can compare notes.”
“We have been wanting to have a book club since I completed my internship at THS two years ago,” Hoffman said. “Mrs. Ernest and I thought it would be fun to host a book club at our local coffee shop. We put two of our favorite things together: coffee and books.”

Students at Restoration 49
|
“Bean There, Read That” meets after school twice a month at Restoration 49 in downtown historic Tallassee. The best part about the book club is we are open to parents, THS students, community members, and anyone who loves to read and discuss great books.
Our first book we are reading is "The Girl who Loved Tom Gordon" by Stephen King. This selection was a parent recommendation, and we are excited to discuss. Our next meeting is Sept. 30 immediately after school at Restoration 49. We will be discussing the first 5-7 chapters of our Stephen King book.
Thank you to THS Principal, Mr. Drew Glass, and Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Tessie Williams, for helping us get this new club off the ground. |
