ACTS has plans for new building
By Bonnie Pavelonis
The Association of Christians of Tallassee (ACTS) food pantry is planning on relocating and building a new facility.
ACTS Director Barry Adair stated, “A lot of our volunteers are aging, to put it mildly, and the stairs are becoming an issue. The ceiling is falling down in different places.
“We are looking to build a building that has no stairs whatsoever, where we can continue to do what we do. There's been an account open here in Tallassee for that building fund. We are hoping our community will see fit to help us move forward with it.
“The account has just been opened. But we have had one sizable contribution. We are waiting to get our plans to an architect to tell us what we could do here, and then really get into moving.”
ACTS plan is to relocate to a property next to the East Tallassee Baptist Church.
“We have spoken to the church, the ACTS board, and the folks of East Tallassee, who are in agreement right now. So hopefully we can move forward. The volunteers and I personally think it would be an ideal location because it's still visible on Highway 14.
“It is so dependent on resources. I'm speaking about the individuals here in Tallassee, the businesses, the churches, if they can get in line with it and see fit for us to move forward, then we can.”
