City considers new soccer complex

Staff Report

The City of Tallassee has the option to utilize funding from ADECA for a new soccer complex. Tallassee Mayor Johnny Hammock unveiled the news at the March 22 city council meeting.

The grant is for up to $200,000 from the Land and Water Conservation Fund. The city would be required to match the funding.

An estimate to build was done prior to the Covid pandemic and came in at $395,000.

Hammock suggested using property at the Babe Ruth Complex for a new field and to name the facility after current councilman Terrel Brown, who was the first soccer coach at Tallassee High School.

"He is loved and respected," said Hammock. "I think it's fitting to name it Terrel Brown Field."

Approxmately 200 kids participate in soccer through the Tallassee Recreation League.
