Hooks announces council candidacy

Jahazel Hooks is excited and proud to officially announce her candidacy for Tallassee City Council Ward 3.
"It will be a great privilege to serve my community on the city council," Hooks said. "I look forward to representing the residents of Ward 3. I will run a positive campaign, one in which I will display integrity and honesty in all my interactions and treat all that I encounter with the utmost respect.
"I will serve you by listening openly to your concerns; pledging my commitment to work with mayor and fellow council on building a better Tallassee, one that thrives economically and maintaining our “small town” feel."
Hooks has lived in Tallassee for more than 50 years.
"I'm not fearful to get involved," she said.
Hooks has volunteered on numerous committees in the area, which includes: Tallassee City School PTA (Secretary); Tallassee City School Board (6 years-4 years as Chair); City of Tallassee Industrial Board; Tallassee Chamber of Commerce; City of Tallassee Personnel Committee; Elmore/Autauga Community Action Board and Head Start Policy Council; Tallassee Relay for Life Committee (25 years-Event Chair 2years). Currently serve on The Community Hospital Board of Trustees; Elmore County Judicial Volunteer Juvenile Conference Committee/Mediator. I am thankful to have been a recipient of the Frances Wagner Volunteer Award in 2010.
"I am not afraid of work, retiring from Neptune Technology after 36 years of service with four years as Tallassee Senior Nutrition Center Director and being involved and concerned with youth."
Hooks currently serves as Senior Sunday School Teacher and Missionary Advisor and Chairperson of Trustees at the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
