Authorities make water rescue

Emergency responders saved four boaters and their dog when their vessel capsized on the lower Tallapoosa River downstream from Thurlow Dam near the public boat ramp behind AES Industries.

The accident occured on Sunday, April 10. Tallasse Police received a call at 5:20 p.m.

The TPD assisted the Tallassee Fire Department Water Rescue Team on the call.

"Two occupants were able to swim to an opposite shore," the TPD posted on Facebook. "The other two occupants attempted to salvage the overturned boat."

Those two occupants were rescued. All individuals were checked for injuries by emegency medical professionals and were listed as unharmed.

The TFD's Engine 1004, Heavy Rescue 35 and 1036 responded.

"Boat 1 made entry and was able to rescue (the) individuals and their canine," the TFD Facebook post noted. "Thank you to all agencies involved in a successful rescue. As summer approaches review and practice all safety rules and regulations for operating near and on your local waterways."

The Tallassee Police Department also reminds those recreating on the waterways of local safety rules.

"Anyone wading, swimming, fishing or boating south of the Thurlow Dam, must wear a personal flotation device at all times."
