Swim qualifiers go to state this week

The ARPA State Swim Meet will be at the Opelika Sportsplex on July 26 and 27. As usual, the Tallassee Tiger Sharks will be well represented with another banner year for state qualifiers.
A total of 27 swimmers will compete in individual competitions. Plus, there will be seven Tallassee teams in medley relays.
"It's getting harder and harder," said THS swim coach Donna Funderburk of competing at the highest level. "We're one of the few that just do rec swimming."
Still, Funderburk likes the team's chances for bringing back some medals.
"Zeke Rigsby is at the top in all three of his events. He won when he was six and now he's eight. Anna Margaret Lucas and Anne Margaret Birchfield have a chance."
Funderburk also feels good about a couple of relay teams both in the eight-and-under age group, "the mixed medley and mixed free."
Events begin at 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $5 per day.
