Girls pick up 2 area shutouts

By Michael Butler

Tallassee took care of some area business in dominating fashion last week. The Tigers softball team picked up a pair of shutouts.

THS (11-10) improved to 2-1 in area play with a 16-0 win over Valley at home on Tuesday and an 8-0 victory at Beauregard on Thursday.

"It was two big wins for us," head coach Pat Love said. "We played better and are getting better everyday. We had great pitching and timely hitting. Most importantly, we played error-free defense. If we do that, we give ourselves a chance to win."

The Valley game was over after 2 1/2 innings. Tallassee sent 16 batters to the plate in a 12-run first. Valley pitchers walked 11 and allowed six hits. Abbie Davis had a 2-for-2 day at the plate with a double and three RBIs. Brooke Royster got the win with a one-hitter over three innings. She struck out three with no walks.

Royster was the winning pitcher against Beauregard as well. She went the full seven innings in another shutout, striking out three and walking one. Marlee Stewart and Alli Smith had two hits each.

Tallassee is off for Spring Break week returning to action on March 28 vs. Sylacauga at Southside Park. The Tigers next area opponent is Elmore County on April 4. The Panthers topped Tallassee 5-1 on March 7.
