Basketball team hosts undefeated Rams

By Michael Butler

Tallassee will take on area foe Valley at Stumberg Gym on Tuesday. The Rams sport a perfect 22-0 record.

The Tigers and Rams met back in December. Valley won by 25 in a 72-47 romp at their place. That is what they've done to most teams through the first two months of the season.

Tallassee (8-7) has played its best basketball of late though winning five of their last six. The Tigers beat Elmore County by 25 on Jan. 10. They topped area opponent Beauregard by 31 on Jan. 13. They added another 15-point win over Elmore County on Jan. 17.

In the most recent win over the Panthers, senior Kaden Slay scored 24 and set the school record for rebounds with 21. Sophomores Rowen Thornton and Jamarrion McCoy also had double digits in scoring with 16 and 10 respectively. Seventh grader Jaiden (J-Man) Gordon added seven points and nine assists.

Valley has dominated its competition this season with just one game decided by less than a ten-point margin. That win was against out-of-state foe Calloway of Georgia 61-58.

"They've got two big guys who are super athletic," Tallassee head coach Keiven Mixson said. "They have two or three of the best players in the state. They're deep and real talented with kids who can hit shots. They're real aggressive and will be a handful."
