Hoops season ends in Troy

The Tallassee High School boys basketball team's 2018-19 season has come to a close. The Tigers fell 44-38 to Charles Henderson in the sub-regional round of the state playoffs on Tuesday in Troy.

It was a game in which Tallassee got behind early and played from behind the rest of the night. The Trojans had a 22-13 lead after the conclusion of the first half and led 32-21 after three periods.

Tallassee's comeback bid came up short after the Tigers cut the lead to a single possession, 37-34 iwith 3:08 left to play.

"Obviously the game was disappointing, but in life things don’t always go your way," head coach Keiven Mixson said. "The lesson here is we pick ourself up and we go work harder and keep trying. We have set a high standard here and our goal will always be regional and state. As long as I’m here that’s what we are striving for.

"One loss doesn’t diminish a lot of team goals met and an exceptional season. We reached our 20-win goal. We won two tournaments and were runner-up in the third. We were ranked for most of the entire season in the ASWA poll. I feel bad today because I wanted these guys to experience region so bad. I feel a little like I let them down. I am so thankful to have coached a great group of young men that represent Tallassee well."

The Tigers finish the season with a 22-8 record. The win total matches the most all-time by a THS team.

The 1970 Tigers went 22-3 and reached the semifinals losing to Pell City. Then the playoffs included a consolation round with Tallassee knocking off Eufaula for a third place finish in the state.
