Tigers wrap spring in LaFayette

Staff Report

Tallassee traveled to LaFayette on Friday for its annual finale to spring football. The game ended as it started, in a tie.

The two sides played even ball for four quarters in a 16-16 finish.

The first quarter was played to a scoreless stalemate. The offenses finally got untracked in the remaining stanzas with each side having an answer for the other.

After the Bulldogs opened the scoring with a 25-yard pass and a two-point play to follow, Tallassee responded with a score of its own.

Tyler Ellis hit Matt Justiss for a 10-yard TD pass in the third quarter. He then connected with Clayton Gough for the two-point conversion to knot things at 8-8.

Ellis will be a ninth grader next season. He took most of the reps at quarterback during spring drills.

Both teams turned things over to the younger players in the fourth quarter with each squad scoring a touchdown. Marciano Smith hit paydirt for the Tigers in a 40-yard scamper. He punched in the two-point conversion to end the scoring.

Tallassee next moves on to summer workouts in preparation for the season opener at Catholic in Montgomery on Aug. 23.
