Tigers end season with win over rivals

By Gary Buchanan

Tallassee used a dominating first half performance to cruise to a 42-21 victory over cross-county rival Elmore County on Friday night.

The Tigers did not yield a first down to the Panthers in the first half. The defense also limited Elmore County’s offense to -7 yards of offense in the first half. All while Tallassee scored seemingly at will.

Kalvin Levett hit Matt Justice on a 52-yard touchdown pass to start the scoring. Levett followed that with two touchdown runs of his own, covering 5 and 15 yards respectively. Special teams got in on the scoring as Cody Gilson blocked a punt and recovered it in the endzone.

The Panthers came to life in the second half. DJ Patrick scored three touchdowns on runs of 6, 66 and 21 yards. He finished the night with 15 carries for 156 yards.

Tavarious “Truck” Griffin was responsible for both of Tallassee’s touchdowns in the second half. He ran in a 7-yard run in the third quarter. Later, in the fourth quarter, Griffin completed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Levett.

“I’m so proud for these seniors. We had some close games that didn’t always go our way. This group of seniors stayed focused and did what they had to do to go out a winner tonight. Most senior classes don’t get to end with a win,” said Coach Mike Battles.

Kalvin Levett closed out his football career with the Tigers in spectacular fashion. He completed 6-of-9 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown. He ran the ball 25 times for 205 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught a pass for a 20-yard touchdown. He accounted for 317 all-purpose yards. His effort earned him Spectrum Player of the Game honors.

Tallassee closes the 2018 season with a 6-4 record.
