Tigers record homecoming shutout
By Gary Buchanan
The Class of 1999 was welcomed back to J. E. “Hot” O’Brien Stadium on Friday night for homecoming. The Tigers treated them to a 23-0 victory over Valley. The win improved Tallassee to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in region play.
Tallassee needed to shake off some rust early. Kalvin Levett scored the only first half points with an eight-yard run early in the second quarter. Tallassee led at the half 6-0.
The Tigers took charge in the second half. Quinton Jeter booted a 22-yard field goal. Markevious Matthews scored on touchdown runs of 16 and 11 yards to put the game out of reach.
“We played great defense tonight. Defense kept us in it and gave the offense a chance to get going. We finally got rolling on offense in the second half,” said Coach Mike Battles.
Trent Cochran-Gill led the charge on defense as he snagged two interceptions and led the team in tackles. His defensive prowess earned him Spectrum Player of the Game honors.
Tallassee goes on the road next week for a region matchup against Rehobeth. Kickoff for that game is set for 7:00 p.m. 1300 WTLS/106.5 FM will broadcast live beginning at 6. The game will be simulcast on Spectrum Channel 97 with audio streaming on the TuneIn app and video streaming on YouTube.
