Tallassee handles Holtville, playoffs next
By Michael Butler
Tallassee extended its win streak to six with a 21-14 victory over Holtville on Senior Night. It was the same Holtville team that ended the Tigers' season last year.
"They still feel the sting of that loss," said first-year Talllassee head coach L.A. O'Neal. "We don't want to say it was a revenge game, but we (had) something to prove."
Holtville's 54-18 win last season was the most lopsided Bulldogs' win in the history of the series. That was last year; however, as Tallassee improved from 1-9 in 2023 to 7-2 this year winning the Class 4A/Region 3 championship. That means the purple and gold will host a first-round playoff game on Friday versus Mobile Christian at J.E. "Hot" O'Brien Stadium.
"I whole-heartedly believed that we could be where we're at right now," O'Neal noted. "Guys went through a lot of adversity. Tough times make tough people. It's a testament to our guys."
Tallassee will be graduating 20 seniors on the squad who were recognized prior to Friday night's game. One of them is Jordan King. The receiver and safety scored all three THS touchdowns on Friday. One was a spectacular 18-yard diving catch. He added a one-yard running score. On defense, he had a fumble recovery that went for 32 yards to paydirt. King also intercepted a pass in the endzone and another that was wiped off the board by penalty.

"This is my first senior class," said O'Neal. "It's big to see the work that they put in and groundwork that they built in helping bring the program back to prominence. It's good that I'm not seeing these guys go because we've got one game after this at least."
Mobile Christian (3-6) finished in a three-way tie for third in Class 4A/Region 1. The tiebreaker made them the No. 4 seed. The Leopards were last year's Class 3A champion with a 15-0 record.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. WTLS - Score 94.7/Hit 106.9 will have the broadcast with an air time of 6 p.m. Video is not permitted in the post-season.
